On the first Saturday of October, a group of scouts, myself included, had the adventure of climbing Mt. Si.  For those who don’t know, Mt. Si is a popular mountain hike, just outside of North Bend.  It’s a stunning view from the top, and 574 does this hike every year.

However, Mt. Si is no small obstacle.  A short 4-mile hike becomes daunting when paired with the 3500 feet of elevation gained.  What’s more, quite a few adventurous scouts and adults made their way to the Haystack, the class 3 scramble up the back of Si’s peak.

The weather was favorable, and the view was incredible from the top.  With few clouds, we were able to look out over the Snoqualmie River Valley. For those who did choose to tackle the haystack, the reward was a higher vantage point, and a look behind Mt. Si at tree-covered mountains to the North.

Mt. Si is a wonderful hike; the fact that the troop does it every year should say that much.  With the good weather and capable hikers that we had, it was a great trip.  No matter if you hiked the Haystack or just climbed the mountain, I’d venture to say everyone had a good time.
